Please review my IELTS writing task 2

The restorations of old buildings in major cities in the world costs numerous government’s expenditure. This money should be used in new housing and road development. Do you agree or disagree?

Huge sum of money is being spent on the renovation of old buildings by the government. However, it is argued that this money should be used in building houses and roads. I disagree with this viewpoint.

Old buildings hold historical and cultural values that are irreplaceable. Architectural designs of these sites illustrates the unique characteristics of ancient society and civilizations. For example, Cham Towers in Binh Dinh Province are symbols of the Cham culture and the practice of worshipping gods of nature. Historical relics provide numerous evidences and materials to study about history. If these sites are not well-preserved but left ignored by the government, people will not be reminded of their national history.

Additionally, the beauty of historical stand out from high-rise buildings and skyscrapers. It can be said that these old buildings add more colors to the concrete jungle in major cities. With special architectural designs, historical relics attract lots of tourists all over the world. The money earned from tourism and other services, in return, help the local authorities restore and preserve old buildings. Taking Hue as an example, the city is an attractions of thousands of visitors each year owing to the old citadels of the Nguyen dynasty. Renovation of citadels is implemented regularly in order to make the sites welcoming to tourists.

In conclusion, the restoration of old buildings is critical because of the historical, cultural, and economic values of these sites. Even though the expenditure for preservation is considerable, the benefits of historical buildings are worth the money.
