PLEASE REVIEW MY IELTS WRITING TASK 2

Because computers can translate all languages very quickly and accurately, learning a foreign language is a waste of time. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Almost languages can now be translated thank to effective and reliable translation machine, therefore people believe that learning a foreign language is unnecessary and time-consuming. I mostly disagree with this idea.

It is true that people have been used languages more flexibly and convenient since translation apps were invented. It takes just a few seconds to understand a whole sentence, paragraph or even document. Highly technological advances in that software are designed to translate every word or phrase in any languages to the user's mother tongue and vice versa in an appropriate context. Thus, it’s reasonable that some people undervalue the significance of learning non-native languages.

Despite the benefits mentioned above, there are still some disadvantages when speakers completely rely on smartphone to communicate with foreigners. Firstly, according to the fact that a word or phrase in certain languages can hold several meaning, artificial intelligence can not always translate accurately without a consideration in the context, emotion or gesture which just can be analyzed precisely by human brain. Secondly, encountering language barriers is unavoidable because people will get difficult trying to translate every single word or sentence in a verbal conversation where we speak unbrokenly instead of stopping a few second to understand what the others are saying. This can be illustrated by someone who is studying abroad in London without knowledge about English and it can be denied that he cannot translate the whole information the teachers convey or specialized vocabulary used by apps. Finally, underrating the necessary of learning foreign languages by most people in modern day would lead to the lost of linguistic diversity in society and traditional and cultural values attached to their own languages.

In conclusion, the applications of translate machine in reality can not outweigh the people own knowledge on the language they want to speak in.
