Topic: The tradition that the family gets together to eat meals is disappearing. What are the reasons? What are the impacts?

My essay:

Family gatherings are one of the best cultural features that play an essential role in increasing family cohesion; however, this good tradition is becoming a thing of the past. There are several causes of this alarming trend and also have significant impacts on family life and health.

There are two obvious reasons why family no longer share mealtimes as they used to do in the past. First, people are caught up in the flow of work and being under economic pressures that reduce the close-knit family. In the single-parent household or in the family with working mothers, it can be difficult to sit together and have a meal on a regular basis. The second reason can be about the changing of people's attitudes and behaviors toward family time. Youngsters often feel irritated and tired when their parents talk too much about their personal lives during mealtimes, as a result, they are more likely to eat in their own room or even eat out.

The consequences of disappearing family time can be clearly seen on children's health and family connections. In terms of effect on health, family mealtimes were an opportunity to provide all the family members with nutritional and balanced diet, based on wholesome home-made food. Without this routine, children are most likely to be fed with fast food or unhealthy things. This will lead to serious diseases such as obesity or diabetes if children regularly have undernourished meals. Moreover, lacking of this tradition may break the stable family background that is a crucial factor in shaping children's personalities. Due to the fact that family gatherings offer quality time for all members to share about their problems or learn about valuable experiences from their parents.

In conclusion, the tradition of family eating together is vanishing over time for a number of certain reasons and the impacts are overwhelmingly negative.
