It is important for children to learn the difference between right and wrong at an early age. Punishment is necessary to help them learn this distinction.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
What sort of punishment should parents and teachers be allowed to use to teach good behaviour to children?
As education has gained increasing concerns from parents and schools , people are of the opinion that in order to make children distinguish which is right and wrong at an early stage, punishment should be applied to make it more efficient. While i agree that punishment can have positive effects on children, teachers and parents are responsible to opt proper way to instill good manners to children.
Punishments could easily change the awareness and attitude of children. In the case that children made some mistakes, such as disobeying or pickpocketing, light physical punishment could be adopted. Hence, children are able to realize their faults and remind themselves not to commit any crimes again. Moreover, punishments at an early age of children can create an instinct fear among them, whereby they are inclined to be scared and cautious of criminal actions and attempt not to be involved to them.
However, it is still important to have an appropriate punishment, thus both parents and teachers should avoid corporal punishments on children due to several consequences. Rough punishment or humiliation could result in negative psychology such as deep depression and mental disorders and then pose a threat on their physical health. Alternatively, they should apply other solutions like houseworks or forcing them to write down their mistakes reminding them, which are in a polite and decent way, so children would happily accept them instead of being reluctant.
In conclusion, it seems to me that the significance of punishment on helping children differentiate between right and wrong is undisputed, but it need to be carefully chosen to have a suitable punishment.
