Fast food is becoming increasingly popular. Some feel that this is a positive trend while others do not. What is your opinion?
The past few years have seen fast food’s growing popularity across the world. However, whether the changes fast food has brought about are positive is still a controversial topic. From my perspective, although this new trend did make life more convenient, its drawbacks almost completely outweigh its advantages.
First, consuming fast food excessively jeopardizes physical well-being. It is obvious that fast food is not as wholesome as home-cooked meals since it contains a considerable number of unwanted substances such as salt, fat, and additives. This is the root cause of obesity, high blood pressure and heart disease. Besides, eating fried chicken, pizzas or burgers alone cannot meet people’s daily diet demands since vegetables and fruits are rarely put in fast food, resulting in low fiber intake. Additionally, the quality of the food that consumers order from fast food chains is not always guaranteed. The ingredients are often frozen ones and their origins are not always ensured.
Second, the overuse of fast food can badly affect people’s lifestyle and diet. It gradually destroys the intimate relationship between family members. Cooking a meal requires preparation and time, therefore, it effectively enhances communication and strengthens the bonds among family members. However, the increase in the number of fast-food restaurants has deterred people from coming home and having meals with their family. Convenience food also results in laziness and its consumers will become overdependent on the others for meals. Furthermore, this habit leads to eating disorders. The convenience of fast food causes us to eat it at any time, anywhere, and thus disobey our eating timetable. Consequently, the body cannot cope with frequent changes and suffer from indigestion and stomachache.
In conclusion, although fast food is delicious, we should only consider it as a way to change our daily diet occasionally and make our life more abundant. This will help us avoid some serious health hazards
