The diagrams below show the life cycle of the silkworm and the stages in the production of silk cloth

The given diagrams illustrate the stages in life of a silkworm and show the various steps in producing silk cloth

There are four main stages in a silkworm’s life, from an egg to an adult worm. The procedure in making silkworm includes six steps, from cocoon to silk material

The first stage in life cycle of the silkworm is when the moth lays its eggs. After ten days, silkworm larva hatch from those eggs, they feed with mulberry leaves. In the next four to six weeks, the larva become covered in silk thread. Then, a full cocoon is produced after three to eight days. Finally, it takes sixteen days for cocoon to become a moth.

For the first step of making silk cloth, the cocoon is selected and then boiled in water. Next, the cocoon unwind the silk thread which lengthens from 300 to 900m. Afterwards, the thread can either be twisted then dyed, or it can be woven into silk fabric then dyed subsequently
