There are three main periods of life of a salmon, and their size is bigger and bigger after each period. It should be noted that salmon live in different environments in each period of life, which are upper river, lower river, and open sea.
Salmons lay eggs in upper rivers with slow moving, and near the places which have reeds and small stones. Eggs then become fries with the length size from 3 to 8 cm. They also move to live in lower rivers where the flowing is fast and have about 4 years of life in that environment before turning to smolts.
Smolts has length size from 12 to 15 cm. They leave lower rivers to live approximately 5 years in open seas. After that, they grow up and are called adult salmons. These mature salmons finally come back upper rivers where they were born to lay eggs.
