Please review my IELTS Writing Task 1

In some countries, owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people.

Why might this be the case?

Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Possessing a house instead of renting one is essential for residents of many countries. In my opinion, it is mainly due to their privacy as well as the feeling of stability and this is a positive situation.

One of the reasons why people, in some countries, crave for home ownership is their confidentiality. For instance, in Vietnam, renters have to obey a lot of rules made by the landlords, such as coming home before a particular time, not inviting too many friends to the accommodation or not redecorating the house without permission. I think those regulations, as a result, might discomfort many tenants, especially the young ones. Another reason for obtaining a private house is the sense of financial security. This means once a person buys a house, it becomes their permanent asset so they will not have to worry about periodically rental payments or they can even get their money back by selling the house. Therefore, they could concentrate on their social lives in order to live pleasantly rather than let the rental contracts bother them.

From my point of view, this circumstance has many positive impacts on society. Firstly, property crimes as well as other ones could be reduced in an area that has stable inhabitants. Having a lot of more to lose than renters, homeowners in one area have more incentive to form and implement crime prevention programs so as to not only protect their property but also others’. Secondly, settling down facilitates administration and policy development of local governments. Because owning a home usually means starting to live in one locality for years, the authorities could base on the characteristics of their population to manage and develop policies that benefit the locals in the long run.

In conclusion, freedom in addition to less financial concerns might cause the desire for home-ownership in some countries and I think its many social advantages making it positive.
