Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that there are not the only reasons why someone should learn foreign language. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

While some people believe that learning a foreign language is only good for traveling or working abroad, others would argue that these are not the whole purpose of learning foreign languages.

On the one hand, nobody can deny the benefits of knowing a country’s language while traveling or working there. In the working environment, it can be helpful with professional activities and connecting with your coworkers, and even everyday activities. Also, in the case of traveling, knowing that country’s language can make your trip much easier and more enjoyable.

However, I believe travel and work aren’t the only reasons one should learn a new language. Firstly, learning a new language can help you get in touch with the culture of people who speak that language, and through studying their language, you can connect with them on a deeper level.

Secondly, the process of learning a language can be very beneficial to your brain. Not only it’s a memory training tool, but also it can widen your mindset and help you grasp new ideas.

Another significant upside of knowing different languages is that you can find people and even friends from various nationalities and you are not restricted to your own country.

On the other hand, some languages are recognized as international languages that you can’t go that far in your carrier or even your normal life without them. For example, as a girl who lives in Iran and my native language is Persian, if I haven’t learned English as a second language, I would have never been able to make any progress in my education, or even personal areas as most of the reliable sources are in English.

In conclusion, even though I agree that learning a foreign language can be useful for your carrier overseas or when you travel, but I believe that these are not the most crucial reasons why one should learn a foreign language.
