Please review my IELTS task 2 - Pollution

Pollution of rivers, lakes and seas is a major concern for people who seek to protect the environment.

What are the possible causes of water pollution, and what effects does this have on animal life and human society?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

my answer:

In recent years, the quality of water is getting worse due to human activity. The activity such as littering not only affects the humans but also animals in our world. In addition, there are also weak regulations about protecting the water quality which contributes to water pollution. In my opinion, if this activity still continues, it will be harmful for human health and animal life.

Indonesia is one of many countries who still dispose waste directly into the rivers due to low awareness about how water pollution could affect their health / (without how) the health risks of water pollution. This activity, if you consume, it leads to various diseases such as cancers, diarrhea, or dysentery. As a result, many people depend on bottled water or boiled river water for their water consumption. Furthermore, the government also does not have any regulations to restrict garbage disposal in the river nor technology such as sewage treatment to minimize the impact on the environment.

As previously mentioned, water pollution is not only dangerous to human life but also to the ecosystem of animals who live there. Domestic and industrial waste by humans contribute more than enough to contaminate animal life. For instance. that salmon and other big fish in rivers accumulate high quantities of toxins, one of them being mercury. If this continues, there is a possibility that the animal does not have a long life span and loses their ability to reproduce.

Water pollution is one of the most important issues that we as humans should be concerned with. A good cooperation among stakeholders such as governments, industries, and communities is needed for combating the impact of water pollution.
