Topic: It is important for people to take risks, both in their professional lives and personal lives.
Do you think the advantages of taking risks outweigh the disadvantages?
My essay
In this ever-expanding modern age we are living in, never before have humans had so many choices to make in their life, both on a personal and professional level. One issue that comes along with the increasing options is how much risk we are willing to take, which cannot be definitively answered without careful scrutinization and consideration.
As the saying “high risk, high reward” goes, one common reason for taking on the more difficult options is that they often have better outcomes relative to the others. The prospect of making the most out of your abilities and earning accordingly is always a viable motivation to push us forward in life. Moreover, by putting constant pressure on ourselves by choosing the more demanding paths, we are, in fact, training and limit-testing our capability in both life and work, which will prove extremely valuable later on in our life. It also helps to keep us out of our comfort zone and stay ready for any new opportunities.
On the contrary, taking risks can be addicting, as proven in gambling, which is one of the more extreme cases. It is dangerously detrimental to recklessly jump into one volatile situation after another just to fail at everything by overburdening yourself. To be confident in yourself and take on the harder tasks is one thing, but to overestimate your capability is another. Considerations and contemplations should always be taken seriously before any risky move is made.
Overall, I do personally agree that risk-taking will eventually prove beneficial in the long run. Some failures are almost unavoidable, but they will also let you know what risk to take next time down the road.
