Topic: The world is experiencing a dramatic increase in population. This is causing problems not only for poor, undeveloped countries, but also for industrialized and developing nations.
Describe some of the problems that overpopulation causes, and suggest at least one possible solution.
My essay:
Many poor, undeveloped countries or even industrialized and developing nations in the world are currently experiencing problems caused by rapidly growing populations. In my opinion, we could do much more to tackle the problem to improve the quality of people’s lives.
The obvious problem of overpopulation is that a shortage of facilities. Clearly, the large increasing amount of people living in an area puts a lot of pressure on housing facilities for residents. It leads to the fact that people will live in poor conditions that causes illness and danger. Furthermore, overcrowded cities are more likely to suffer from scarcity of medical and educational facilities that impacts negatively on the quality of people’s lives. Another serious consequence of overcrowding is a rising crime rate, which may lead young people in particular to commit a crime or take drugs. As a result, life will be unhealthy and stressful.
In terms of solutions, to the crowded cities, the governments should build more social housing that is both affordable and safe to ensure the healthy accommodation for people. Moreover, I think birth control should be compulsory. Each family is only allowed to give birth to maximum two children and we need to public more sex education to train people the ways to prevent from unintended pregnancy. That will decrease the number of citizens substantially. Another possible solution is that the government should distribute the population density among cities by delivering crowded places such as university, hospital to suburban area with its own benefits to encourage residents make their arrivals. On top of that, the best way is to raise awareness of all residents about the disadvantages and cons of overpopulation.
In conclusion, overpopulation poses the serious threats to life quality of inhabitants. However, governments could certainly implement a range of measures to curb the problem.
