Task 2: Government should ban dangerous sports activities. Others, however, think that people have the freedoms to do any sports or activity. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
The 21st century has witnessed an unprecedented development in living standards, along with that, recreational activities especially dangerous sports have now gained more attention than ever. This provokes two schools of thought, in which some people insisted on prohibiting these types of sports activities, while others believe it is individuals’ freedom to opt for any sports, with which I completely agree. This essay will elaborate on both views and give perspective opinions about those issues.
First, dangerous sports activities need to be forbidden by official authorities for the sake of safety grounds. Despite participants’ eagerness to join those activities, many of them are not well-informed and unaware of the safety guidance caused by their incaution and carelessness, thereby leading to negative consequences afterwards. To elucidate, numerous cases of players having unqualified health conditions and necessary basic skills still involved in the risk-taking pursuits bring about tragedic health problems in the end from headaches to heart attacks and migrant anxiety. Moreover, not only those adventurers could be greatly affected but other involved individuals also experience the same consequence. It is apparent that when undesired accidents happen to reckless sports players, other people’s lives such as emergency lifeguards’ are also put in great danger by making attempts to save and get exhausted during the rescuing process.
In contrast, it is my contention that citizens should be allowed to freely choose what activities they partake in for entertainment, including dangerous ones. It is obvious that issuing a prohibition on those activities means infringing on residents’ rights to practise their hobbies and recreational pursuits, especially those who have an awareness to abide by the rules. Since adventurous sports are proven to bring about positive effects on human health by preventing cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, it would be against the government’s encouragement for citizens to lead a healthy lifestyle if banning those sports types. Moreover, thanks to technological advances, recent development has been made in enhancing the overall quality of sports equipment namely helmets, safety belts or protective clothing. This, in turn, ensures safety levels as well as promotes people to take risk-taking sports as their daily pastime, which are highly recommended as those kinesthetic activities do wonders to participants in terms of not only physical health but also mental well-being.
In conclusion, although risk-taking activities bring about some particular risks to involved humans’ lives, it is necessary for citizens to choose whatever they join as their healthy recreational pastime as long as they are fully aware of the sports safety instructions and take full responsibility for any consequences caused by their indifference.
