Please review my IELTS Task 2 essay

Some people believe that having pets in homes is good for children while others think it is dangerous and unhealthy. Which opinion do you agree with?

The world is full of animal lovers who believe that every family with a child should have a pet. Some people appreciate pets but wouldn’t want to take the responsibility to care for them. On the other end of the spectrum, some people absolutely despise animals and believe that animals shouldn’t be inside homes with kids. This issue is definitely debatable with several points to support either side. However, I strongly believe that keeping pets is absolutely beneficial for children because of several cogent reasons.

First and foremost, the statement, ‘pets are unhealthy’ is simply untrue. It is scientifically proven with empirical evidence that children who were born and raised in the countryside are much more immune to diseases than children in cities because of the presence of animals in farms that they live in. Growing up with pets builds a better immunity in young kids which indicates that being around animals is highly beneficial for children. The argument mentioning ‘pets are dangerous’ is also easily refuted by the simple fact that pets are only dangerous when they aren’t adequately trained. An ill-mannered dog doesn’t prove that dogs are dangerous by any means. It only reflects the carelessness and negligence of the owner. Most aggressive dogs became sober and gentle once they underwent proper training and care. Apart from providing companionship, pets also support their owners in every way possible. In fact, cats are known to help their owners by alleviating mental conditions like depression.

To recapitulate, the crux of the arguments proposed is that the only way pets can be a hindrance to a family is when the pet is not given a suitable environment to thrive. With the right training and care, potentially dangerous pets like cats, dogs and birds can be the most wonderful addition to a family.
