The two pie charts give information about the percentage of British undergraduates who were capable of speaking languages other than their mother tongue at one England university in 2000 and 2010.
Overall, about one third of British students spoke Spanish as their second language only, and this number increased over time. By contrast the rate of undergraduates speaking just English was significantly decreased over the period.
In 2000, the proportion of students who spoke Spanish was the majority, accounting for 30%. Undergraduates speaking another language in addition to English made up 15%. A decade later, there was a rise of 5% in those speaking Spanish and another language. From 2000 to 2010, the percentage of students speaking German and two other languages remained the same at 10%.
On the contrary, the rate of British students speaking only their mother tongue was reduced by half after a decade. Similarly, 15% of those speaking French as their second languages in 2000, while that rate was decreased to 10% 2010.
