In the first 60 years of the period, the percentage of household electrical equipment significantly rose. Specifically, the number of refrigerators rose dramatically and reached a peak of 100% in 1980. following the same pattern, the proportion of vacuum cleaners and washing machines shot up at 90% and over 60% respectively. By contrast, the number of hours of household chores per week considerably fell from 50 hours in 1920 to 20 hours in 1960.
The next 39 years experienced a gradual growth of the proportion of washing machines to over 70% in 2019. And the percentage of refrigerators remained 100%, the same with vacuum in between 2000 and 2019. Whereas, during 1920 and 2019, the hours of housework per week still dropped slowly.
