In general, the process comprises a series of stages of a butterfly, beginning with eggs being laid and ending with the adult butterfly.
In the first stage, the monarch butterfly lays eggs on the surface of the leaves of a plant. Then, once the egg hatches, a larva begins to feed on the leaves. The next stage is a period when larva continue feeding, and then attach themselves to the plant.

In the final stage, when the butterfly increases in size and reaches full maturity and the life cycle repeats itself again.
