These days people in some countries are living in a “throwaway” society which means people use things in a short time then throw them away. What are its causes and what impacts can it have?

A “throwaway society” is not a confusing phrase for us anymore when more and more people are inclined to live in this way, they discard or neglect things that they have bought recently or just use them in a short time. There are various causes for this negative development and the repercussions it brings for us is quite worrying.

The reason for the emergence of this society is mainly because of people’s lifestyles today. Some people enjoy keeping up with the latest trend on the Internet, especially the young; hence, whenever a new product that they have a desire for is released, they will buy it at all costs. Since some people long for following the newest trend, they will also buy some products that are unnecessary to boast themselves. As a result, after a short time, people tend to throw them away or do not pay attention to these items. For example, many youngsters nowadays crave having the new iPhone 13 and are ready to spend about 1000$ to possess it when their old phones are still good or have just been bought recently.

Some negative consequences can go along with this trend. Firstly, when people squander money on unnecessary things, they will suffer from great debt, especially the young who always want to show off themselves but do not have jobs or enough money to follow the latest trend. Secondly, the “throwaway” lifestyle can result in some severe environmental issues. In fact, when a large amount of rubbish and unused items are released and not treated appropriately, our environment can be damaged severely.

In conclusion, various reasons have contributed to the emergence of the throwaway society, with rising consumer debt and environmental degradation being two of the most significant consequences.
