Public transport should be funded by the government so that it can be free for people who use it. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people hold the belief that public transport should be subsidized by the government; therefore, it can be complimentary for everyone. I completely agree with this statement because it can generate various benefits such as: protecting our environment from air pollution as well as providing opportunities for the poor to travel easier during the Covid 19 pandemic without worrying about price.

Firstly, should the government fund public transports, we can reduce some serious problems related to our environment such as air pollution. When tickets are free, people may tend to use public transports frequently rather than driving on their own. Admittedly, private transports such as cars, motorbikes have emitted thousands of tons of exhaust fumes every year, which is seriously harmful to the environment as well as people’s health if they inhale it regularly. However, by using buses, trains instead, people not only save up their money but also contribute to protecting our lives. As a result, it is undeniable that the government’s subsidy to provide free service of public transport is crucial in this circumstance.

Secondly, using public transports without paying can pave the way for the needy to come back to their hometowns more often, especially in this hard circumstance when the Covid pandemic breaks out, leading to economic recession. During this tough time, some people are jobless but still need to live far from home because they do not have enough money to return. Hence, the government can help them out of this poor situation by sponsoring public transports prices.

In conclusion, it is my conviction that the authorities should fund public transport so it can be complimentary for everyone using it. By doing so, people can not only diminish some severe environmental problems but also generate traveling opportunities for the poor and the jobless, which may help them have a better life during the Covid circumstance.
