Scientists believe that by studying the behavior of 3 years old children, we can predict if that child can become a criminal in the future. To what extent do you think a crime is a product of human nature? Is it possible to stop children from growing to be a criminal?

The psychology and behavior of toddlers are the results of the interaction between their human nature and nurturing environment, which could indicate their personality in the future. That is why the behavioral problems during the first three years are believed to be predictive of children’s future antisocial and criminal tendencies. However, I think that human nature is not totally responsible for forming a delinquent and there are several solutions to prevent them from growing to be a criminal.
According to recent researches, offenders share some similar personality traits in their childhood, such as more aggressive and disruptive, which can help forecast their criminality. Nevertheless, compared to extrinsic elements, genetic factors appear to be less influential on their psychology and behavior. Instead, upbringing and education at a young age are considered as fundamental elements for shaping these factors. For example, children growing up in families with conflicts or lacking adequate supervision from parents, are at the highest risk of becoming delinquents.
However, there are many effective solutions to discourage juvenile delinquency. First, providing children with a better educational opportunity. Various studies point out that children educated in friendly and open schools would conform to social norms and values that schools promote, thereby reducing their probability of criminal behavior. Furthermore, because children are at an impressionable age, they are easily affected by their peers and get involved in social evils. As a consequence, parents need to be ideal role models for their children when teaching them moral lessons as well as giving them advice when necessary.
In conclusion, external rather than biological factors exert heavy influences on the mindset of children. Therefore, early intervention and adjustment should be offered to orientate them to be upstanding and honest citizens in their adulthood.
