More and more students are choosing to study at colleges and universities in foreign countries.

Do the benefits of studying abroad outweigh the drawbacks?

Nowadays, education has become indispensable for everyone. Many students want to study in foreign universities due to several reasons. In my opinion, studying overseas bring more benefits to people than the drawbacks it might bring.

Admittedly, there are some drawbacks for students who want to obtain a foreign degree. One problem is the higher tuition fees compared to local colleges that do not charge much. Numerous institutes charge higher fees from international students because of increased competition among them. As a result, most of them do part-time jobs so that they can sustain their living expenses. Over 50% students of the Delhi University, for instance, do odd-jobs in their first-year and the reason is exorbitant fees. Since many people hesitate to learn the new language, another possible issue is the language barrier in new countries. They sometimes do not understand the lectures, and find it difficult to communicate in the local language there. In 2018, around 10% students of the Stanford University, for example, left the institute as they could not speak the English.

On the positive side, studying abroad has numerous advantages for the students. First, people who obtain tertiary education from abroad has better job prospects. Most employers prefer to offer jobs to those who have a foreign qualification and experience. That is why many young people try to go overseas and obtain the higher qualification. Second, students get exposure to different cultures which broadens their thinking perspective. This is because people from all around the world get admission in these colleges who represent their local cultures. As a result, they get exposure to multicultural people. The Cambridge University, for example, offered admissions to students of more than 100 countries in 2016. The graduates of this year received jobs in the multinational companies as they employ foreign graduates.

In conclusion, learning new cultures and better job opportunities are the main advantages for people who choose to study abroad which greatly outweigh some of its drawbacks.
