People now have the freedom to work and live anywhere in the world due to the development of communication technology and transportation.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend?

With the rapid development in technology, people have become able to work or live in any part of the world. While flexibility and giving more time to their families are the main advantages of this trend, some drawbacks should also be considered.

On the one hand, there are some drawbacks of living or working in different part of the world due to technological advancements. One possible problem is distraction from work since many people indulge in personal tasks when they work from home. This sometimes results in delay of essential tasks. Another possible issue is lack of supervision from immediate manager who usually provides the guidelines to complete the job efficiently. This is because in-person discussion saves considerable amount of time in doing office work. The employees of the Google, for instance, are allowed to work from any place, but they prefer to come office because they feel more productive at office and do not want any distraction.

On the other hand, advance developments in technology have brought substantial benefits to the public at large. First, they find it convenient as they are not required to commute daily which takes considerable time. They can work at anytime they want while traveling or enjoying with their families. Second, they can spend substantial amount of time with their families that leads to strong relationships with their loved ones. This is because they do not spend eight to ten hours at office premises which many people do. As a result, they feel more satisfied with their life. Most major companies in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, for example, allow its employees to work from home. These people are generally happier and more productive than the employees of other organizations.

In conclusion, while this trend has many advantages, lack of supervision and distraction from work are the possible disadvantages.
