Some people say that in our modern age, it is unnecessary to teach children about the skills of handwriting. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In this digital age, many believe that it is not important to teach children about handwriting skills. While computers and laptops have taken over paperwork, I completely disagree that handwriting is unnecessary for children.
When children use a hand to write something, it is more likely that they will learn better. That is to say that even though it is easy to take notes on digital devices, such as computers and laptops, pupils may not learn properly. This is because while writing hand-eye coordination makes it easier for their brain to remember things. According to a recent study, pupils, for example, perform better in paper-based exams than online exams. The reason is that they learn their study material properly. This example supports that handwriting is an essential skill for children as they can grasp a concept in a better way.
Another reason of why I believe that children should be taught handwriting is that it improves their cognitive skills. In other words, their mental ability to think increases significantly. When children write anything on a paper, they simultaneously read it which makes them curious to understand that topic. It means that they become eager to learn more about that topic. Many children, for instance, remember and understand mathematics formulae well when they write those on papers instead of typing them on computers. They are encouraged to learn more about the basics of formulae so that they can understand more advanced equations.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that learning handwriting skills is crucial for children. This will not only improve their cognitive skills, but also helps them to remember concepts.
