Topic:

Technology that will allow cars to function automatically, without a human driver is currently being developed. When the technology for self-driving cars has been perfected, these vehicles will replace cars operated by humans. Is this a positive or a negative development?

My answer:

In recent years, technological advancement has been happening in the automobile industry. One of the major developments would be self-driving cars; cars drive automatically without human control. Although further improvement is still required to this feature, there will be a day soon when we no longer need to control a car handle. I personally believe that this is a great development for several reasons.

Firstly, it could reduce the mental stress of drivers. They always keep their eyes on the road and surroundings while their companions can check their phones or eat food freely. If a car drives without a driver, he or she can enjoy their free time inside the car with their friends and family.

Secondly, some regulations would also be loosened for drivers such as alcohol restrictions. They will not need to stay sober at any occasion where others get drunk.

Most importantly, self-driving cars can reduce car accidents caused by human errors. A few months ago, there was pity news that a 89 years-old comedian was hit by a car driven by a 76 years-old man. Unfortunately, the comedian passed away the next day.

Similar accidents caused by elderly drivers have been increasingly happening in Japan’s aging society, especially in rural areas where no other transportation is available for local people. Automated-driving cars could improve the way they transport with no fear of accidents.

Overall, driverless cars would be a tremendous benefit for us to live more comfortably. Many of us expect this great technology to improve and become available to us in near future.
