Please review my IELTS essay about my ideas and reasoning

Advertising discourages people from being different individuals by making us all want to do the same and look the same. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Opinions are divided into whether advertisement dissuades people from being iconic by rendering everyone similar. In this essay, however, I will challenge this school of thought.

On the one hand, although advertising can powerfully affect one’s decision, there are many other factors that also have influence on people’s choices. Chief of these is the personal finances of individuals. To illustrate, wealthy people generally opt to buy highly expensive products that keep them fashionable and elegant, which may not be affordable to the poor. This eventually results in the difference between the rich and the those living under the poverty line.

On the flip side, It is indisputable that advertising has been providing people with many choices to select. Due to the development of social media, it can be seen that many teenagers nowadays have a propensity to imitate the dressing style of their idols and models. This can be witnessed in the way that many Vietnamese girls buy clothes of the same styles worn by their idols from Korean singers or boys in Vietnam tend to have their hair done with the Korean styles. In addition, the Islamic women must wear their headscarves from the early days of their life.This tradition eventually renders the advertisement ineffective because I cannot imagine one would ruin this only by the influence of the advertisement.

In conclusion, the impacts of advertising on people’s looks are noticeable, but it does not necessarily mean that all people would have identical appearances owing to such an influence.
