Some people could be naturally good leaders. Others believe that people can learn leadership skills. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

While many talented leaders have a big influence on many people around the world, whether they have this present position thanks to their natural aptitude or by learning and accumulating leadership skills still stokes controversies. From my perspective, both gift and leadership skills can contribute to a leader; however, the former is not an indispensable requirement.

Admittedly, many people can be naturally endowed with natural factors that contribute to successful leaders. Competition, which is regarded as one of the most indispensable of a chief, can be seen most prominently in elite children. Those who frequently have good performances at school and always endeavor to learn more and more, undoubtedly, have a better foundation than normal children at their age. Social surveys have revealed that kids who are talented, laborious and studious tend to be class monitors at schools, which motivates them towards upper social class later in life. Moreover, a naturally appealing look also makes a good impression on others. Such elegant and good-looking people have opportunities to be trusted for important tasks and get promoted to their dream position more easily. Last but not least, people who are born with the bravery to take risks and do difficult things can be promising leaders. Only when the leaders are open-minded, courageous and dare to get out of their comfort zone can their groups or organizations develop sustainably with unique and imaginative ideas. Elon Musk epitomizes this point. Because of the courage, he has reached the zenith of his career with many large companies founded after dozens of bankruptcies.

On the other hand, despite not having several natural aptitudes, people still can become leaders by learning necessary skills. One of these skills is problem-solving. By being under pressure or learning from predecessors, leaders themselves have enough experience to think comprehensively and tackle with their groups' problems. Furthermore, discipline, which has to develop from an early age, is undoubtedly the core factor of a successful head. Steve Jobs is a living example. He always put himself in a productive time schedule and strived endlessly to lead his company to bring the innovation for life of billions of people around the world. Lastly, like those aforementioned skills, cooperating skills can be learnt from group assignments, clubs at schools and part-time jobs. This point is clearly manifested in the fact that many group leaders at school master this social skill while making presentations with their members.

It is readily apparent to me that both aptitude and leadership abilities can make a person a good leader. However, those who are not born with natural factors can learn these skills.

Natural aptitude:

  • Competitive
  • Appearance
  • Courageous

Leadership skills that can be learnt:

  • Problem-solving skills
  • Discipline
  • Cooperating skills
