Some people believe that visitors to other countries should follow local customs and behavior. Other disagree and think that the host country should welcome cultural differences. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
It is commonly believed by some individuals that national custom and behavior should be followed by foreign tourists. Others, however, oppose it and support the idea that the different conventions should be tolerated by the local people. Before giving my own opinion, I am going to analyze both viewpoints thoroughly.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that tourism plays a vital role in the economy of each nation, so being hospitable to new cultures is an absolute necessity. Supporters of this idea believe that when visitors are welcomed warmly, the nation will be reputed to be very friendly. Vietnam, for instance, is greatly appreciated for its hospitality, which can help to attract numerous visitors. Moreover, this beautiful behavior can be seen as a good opportunity for host country to learn more about the world outside and avoid being out-of-date. The community, therefore, should accept the differences in culture in their locality.
On the other hand, many individuals assume that new civilization and behavior of other countries can offend against the norms of local society. For example, a kiss is a form of greetings in some European countries; however, it can be considered as a wrongdoing in some Asian ones. In addition, many new lifestyles introduced to local citizens can be seen as negative as teenagers may be interested in and influenced a lot, which can lead them to forget their customs. Hence, local norms should be adapted by visitors to avoid losing the host country’s cultural features.
In conclusion, acceptances various traditions can be considered as a good deed because it helps each nation to be more well-known, attractive and advanced; meanwhile, forcing foreign tourists to follow local customs and behavior is of extreme necessity for each nation to maintain their cultural beauty. While I tend towards the viewpoint that hospitality should be improved, I would have to support a limited amount for ensuring that national customs and behavior should be followed.
