It is a common belief that students with distinguished academic performance should be taught in selective schools, separate from other students. However, I think that the disadvantages of that method outweigh its merits.

On the one hand, it can be beneficial to teach gifted children in separate classes. First, they have chance to learn more specialized knowledge, which stimulates their logical thinking. Therefore, they can get higher grades. In addition, there will be more effort made by these students as they compete with their peers in school exams. In Vietnam, for instance, high schools for the gifted are the dreams of many students. They are known not only for their high quality of students but also the excellent academic achievements every school year. These schools can offer an ideal educational environment for talented students to develop their great abilities and academic potential.

On the other hand, teaching talented students separately can have negatives consequences. To begin with, teachers might inclined to focus only the gifted students and neglect the other ones. Because teaching talented youngsters is much easier, teachers may pay more attention to them, instead of asking the less-talented ones whether they have clearly understood the lessons. For example, some schools may ignore the average students and decide to focus their resources, such as specialized teachers and tutorial sessions on the advanced classes as they are the ones likely to get the best results for the school. Moreover, separation can create division and make the less gifted feel they are not as important as the gifted ones, leading to a sense of disillusionment about studying.

To sum up, while there are some benefits to educate gifted students in separate classes, it still can be disadvantageous since teachers may only prioritize the talented ones and pay less attention to the other ones.
