The process flow chart illustrates the ways in which silk cloth is made from silkworm cocoons.

Overall, the silkworm is a commercially bred caterpillar, which spins a cocoon that can be used to produce silk fiber. The process consists of six steps, and there is no time given for any of the steps. The farming and harvesting of the silkworm are not shown.

The diagram starts with the selection of harvested cocoons based on its quality, such as the length, cleanliness and size. In the second step, the sorted cocoons are softened by being boiled in water. The third step is called reeling, which unwinds each of these cocoons into a filament thread that has a length of between 300 and 900 meters. The next step is to twist three strands of the threads together to form a stronger single one called yarn. The yarn is dipped in liquid dyes (step five), creating different shades. The final step involves weaving the coloured yarn, producing cloths.
