The graph compares the average figures for temperatures and precipitation per month during the year in a city called Kolkata.
It is clear from the chart that both the temperatures and the amount of rain undergo a fluctuation, with more significant changes in precipitation. Interestingly, those figures reach their peaks at different times in the year.
In January, the average temperature in Kolkata stands at approximately 20 Celsius degree before increasing gradually to its peak in May, 10 Celsius degree higher than the coldest month. The average temperature stabilizes from 25 to less than 30 Celsius in five subsequent months. For the rest of the year, the figure for temperature falls by 10 Celsius degree and finishes at just over 20 Celsius degree in December which is the coldest month.
In terms of rainfall, Kolkata's average amount of rain also experiences a dramatic growth from less than 50mm to around 250mm from January to June. The precipitation’s figure reaches its highest point in July at nearly 350mm, above seven times higher than the lowest point, which is a more considerable gap than the figure for the average temperature. In the last four months, the level of rainfall has dropped to just around 10mm in December, consequently December is not only the coldest but also the driest month throughout the year.
