Topic: Today, TV channels provide man’s sport shows more than women’s sport shows, why? Should TV channels give equal time for women’s sport and men’s sport?
In recent years, men's sports programs have been broadcasted more frequently than those of women. The main reason for this is the growing number of people having more interest in men’s sporting event. In my point of view, I believe the showtime of broadscating both genders should be in the same frequency.
I assume the root cause for men's sports to be more coverage lies in the number of viewers. Men's sports always attract the attention of a vast audiences whereas women's are the other way round. For instance, in the 2020 Olympic Games, over 1 billion audiences are watching men's football competition, the number of which is 5 times as many as those watching women's. This surely brings huge profits to not only the broadcasters but also investors. This also informs us that men's sports competition is increasingly invested to captivate more watchers.
However, I consider that the efforts to balance the sports programs of both genders are necessary. TV channels should give equal opportunities for female athletes which will encourage them to nurture and sharpen their talents. Watching women's tournaments on TV also ignites enthusiasm for younger girl athletes, therefore, they will have the driving force to devote excellent performances to the audience. In the long term, the number of viewers who pay attention to women's sports shows is increasing. On the contrary, if men’s sports programs continue to receive more coverage than women's one, the broadcaster might face ostracization because of gender inequality issues.
To sum up, besides, the growth of the male’s sport, I think women’s sports should also be invested by broadcast.
