Essay & Composition Writing

Please review my IELTS essay

Topic:

Some people think that all university students should study whatever they like. Others believe that they should only be allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future, such as those related to science and technology.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

My essay:

Which subjects should be included in the curriculum at tertiary education seems to be a topic of controversy. While some people believe that it would be better for learners to be forced into certain key subjects linked to their future careers, I argued that university students should be at liberty to study whatever they are keen on.

It is undeniable that there are numerous reasons why studying important subjects such as science and technology would be beneficial in the future. First, they may assert that certain art degrees are less likely to be significant than university courses like medicine, engineering, and information technology. Second, these courses will provide more employment opportunities, job promotions, decent salaries, and so on. All of them will help students after graduation gets a higher quality of life. Last but not least, society can gain great advantages from youthful labor sources in essential subject areas. They are well-educated, creative, and physically strong, which fuels new necessary inventions, economic growth, and greater future prosperity.

However, I think that choosing which subjects to learn at university should be the freedom of students. If students have a passion for fields that they are learning, they will exert themselves to work effectively. Hence, the community will benefit more from them. Besides, nobody can really predict exactly which fields of knowledge will be most useful to society in the future. It may be that creative thinking skills will be more considerable than practical and technical skills. As a result, the demand for a competitive labor market would need more arts, history, and philosophy students than science and technology.

In conclusion, it seems to me that college students must choose areas of knowledge they like despite some arguments to make learners study some particular subjects that will be helpful in the years to come.

thanks
