Question: Students should pay the full cost for their own study because university education benefits individuals rather than society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Answer:

Education is an unarguable necessity for society to evolve. However, there has been debate arguing that learners pursuing higher education should cover the full tuition as university education brings more individual benefits than social good. In my opinion, it is unreasonable to put more financial burden on students since an investment in humans is an investment in society and inclusivity is vital in education.

Firstly, humans are the prerequisite and most vital element of society. Education should not be seen as a device for monetization and capitalization but as a long-run investment. People with higher education, better knowledge, higher career prospects, and an overall more secured future can afford higher living standards, contribute more to the economy and play a significant role in defying vicious social prejudices. As humans are the engine of society, allocating budget to provide support for pupils pursuing higher education who are in need is a rather crucial move.

Secondly, it is of great importance for governments to consider students with backgrounds. There have been numerous premises about people with intellectual and provoking, groundbreaking ideas who come from less privileged backgrounds. It can be people of color or people of minority groups, those who might not be capable of affording such luxury of higher education but with all rights deserve it. Therefore, the more financial burden there is, the more likely is inclusivity precluded. Besides, the main objective of education is to provide knowledge, not to reinforce financial supremacy.

In conclusion, I do not believe that university students should be responsible for the full tuition as fulfilling personal needs is a step closer to approaching fulfillment on a more macro scale, and inclusivity needs to be concerned in education.
