Please review my IELTS essay

In many schools and universities, girls tend to choose arts subjects (eg. languages) and boys choose science subjects (eg. Physics). What do you think are the reasons? Do you think that this tendency should be changed?

There exist cases in a lot of schools and institutions where girls have a tendency to major in arts subjects (for example, languages) and boys elect to study science subjects such as Physics. Personally, this tendency is ascribable to misconceptions about girls' and boys' academic abilities, and I believe that it should be changed in the interest of social cohesion.

The difference in girls' and boys' majors can be attributable to wrong beliefs about their learning potential. Indeed, it is a common fallacy that girls are assiduous and imaginary, which can make them suitable to learn arts subjects that require hard work and creativity, and that boys are more intelligent than girls, hence being able to solve difficult and mentally taxing tasks. As a result, choosing to learn complicated subjects such as Physics is a judicious decision.

Nonetheless, I opine that this tendency should be changed for the sake of social cohesiveness. A specific occupation in actuality requires the expertise in a particular subject; consequently, were females to continue specialising in arts subjects and their male counterparts to study science subjects, male- and female-dominated fields would exist. That is likely to lead to gender stereotypes, breaking the harmony of societies, which is difficult to regain.

In conclusion, I would reaffirm that the tendency among girls to study arts subjects and among boys to choose science subjects can be traceable to misconceptions about their intellectual potential. Nevertheless, this situation needs to be reversed, otherwise it would be societies that have to suffer.
