Many young people nowadays choose to remain unmarried.

Why is this?

Is it a positive or negative development?

There is a tendency among young people to opt for being unmarried. This trend can be attributable to people's yearning for a carefree life, and a decrease in marriage can pose injurious consequences for both individuals and society as a whole.

The growing popularity of the decision to remain unmarried of young people stems from their yearning for a stress-free lifestyle. As virtually no marriage has ever existed in a vacuum, marital difficulties remain a headache for most couples. In contrast with the period when couples are being in a romantic affair, the frequency of conflicts are denser, which may be detrimental to the mental health. Also, fiscal strain and the inability to pursue one's interests might negatively impact people's well-being. However, those choosing to live alone may hardly ever encounter such problems as they can sufficiently support themselves and do whatever they like provided that they are in the ranks of the employed.

Overall, the tendency to remain unmarried among the young can exert an adverse impact on all those concerned and society. On an individual level, people who decide not to get married can suffer from loneliness in their old age. On a societal scale, the population may shrink as it is likely that the birth rate may fall in tandem with a decline in marriage. That might lead to a shortage of the workforce, negatively affecting the economy after all.

In conclusion, people's yearning for a comfortable life is the chief cause of their decision to remain unmarried. And such a trend can be to the detriment of their old life and society.
