Art is regarded as the pillar of all cultures in the world. Nonetheless, the passion for the artistic field has waned, and people have shifted their attention to science, technology, and business. This can be attributable to the inability of the arts to satisfy people's aspiration to wealth and to rectify problems afflicting humankind such as environmental issues. Yet ordinary citizens would be passionate about artworks were art-related programmes ubiquitous.

There are two primary reasons for the waning interest of people in the arts. First, art cannot be a means to generate income for many people. Indeed, art may be mere, for many, a reminder of national history or social mores in the past, which can enrich people's spiritual life and their knowledge about the local history. It can be argued that art-dealing can be a main income-generating activity for some people. However, such people are often well-educated and have profound knowledge about the artistic field, hence being in the minority. Therefore, the arts may not help many people financially. Second, put in the context of the grave state of the environment, art can be of no service. In contrast, technology and science can be put in high esteem based on common sense that the two fields may one day introduce machines that can reverse the damage done to the environment.

Despite an increasing number of people ignoring the arts, art-related programmes can rekindle people's interest in this field. Due to the nature of most works of art which is abstract and even impenetrable, many laypeople may taste the feeling that they are standing in front of children's messy drawings rather than masterpieces when visiting an art gallery or simply seeing a painting by a renowned artist somewhere. Therefore, people need help to understand the illicit meaning of artworks. And programmes containing art-related content may prove efficacious to instruct laypeople to analyse and grasp the true meaning behind a seemingly messy drawing. Indubitably, when such people can themselves find secret meanings behind artworks, they may be interested in the arts and go to art galleries more frequently.

In conclusion, the increasing disregard for the artistic field can be ascribed to the facts that many people are unable to earn or supplement their income from the arts and that this field makes little contribution to the campaign to mitigate environmental issues. However, art-related programmes would help encourage many sectors of the world to take interest in the arts.
