My answer:
Many hold that History should be given precedence at school, whereas others claim that Science and IT are of more consequence than History in this day and age. While I concur that students should pay attention to Science and IT, I also believe that it would be imprudent to downplay the value of History.
On the one hand, Technology is the subject which renders students with knowledge and skills related to the daily life. With the advent of smartphones and computers, students can have a job getting access to ongoing domestic and international affairs unless they are able to use the Internet because all kinds of information are nowadays made available on the Internet. In addition, being well-versed in Science brings students numerous benefits, one of which is a higher chance of passing the entrance exam to university. Many tertiary institution place an emphasis on Science acquisition, thus one may stand a chance of getting into top-tier university if he or she acquires a good knowledge of Science.
On the other hand, I opine that History is no less significant than other disciplines. First, learning History can give students a sense of patriotism. For instance, when they learn about hard periods in their country in the past, and how people got over it, it is likely that they will admire the past generation, and make every attempt to prevent their country from dangers so as not to make efforts of the previous generation to keep the peace wasted, as a result. Second, history also leaves a multitude of lessons for the future generation in order that people in the future will not repeat the same mistakes that people in the past made.
In conclusion, it is irrefutable that students ought to focus on subjects like Science and Technology, but I firmly believe that History should not be ignored.
