Topic: Some people believe that the best way to increase road safety is to increase the minimum legal age for driving cars. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Recently, the debate of whether or not increasing the minimum legal age of driving cars or riding motorbikes is the best way to save people from traffic collision. Although this suggestion is aim to help people be better off, other workable solutions should be considered.

There are a number of reasons why this suggestion is not an effective way for the situation as a whole. First, teenagers are not the main cause of road traffic accidents because they occur for a variety of reasons, including distraction while behind the wheel, drunk driving, unsafe road design, which could happen to anyone, not just teenagers. Therefore, limiting teenage drivers on the road may just have a meagre impact on the road safety. Second, the sooner people learn how to drive, the better drivers they become. In fact, if they get older and are busier, they will be more likely to have less time to hone their driving skills, which could potentially reduce road safety.

Nevertheless, there are a myriad of other solutions to increase road safety. First, it is vitally important to educate people properly before they start to drive. This means that schools can provide extended lessons or more difficult driving tests, which prepares young adults with better driving skills. Second, improving road infrastructure and transportation systems is also considered as a feasible solution. For example, stoplights, stop signs and road bumps can be used wherever appropriate in order to curb speeding, allowing different commuters, including drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, to travel in safety.

In conclusion, raising the minimum legal age of driving for road safety should not be considered as the ultimate way. By applying other measures, such as increasing road users' knowledge of rules and driving skills, improving road infrastructure and enforcing compliance with standards, governments can make the situation better.
