Please review my IELTS essay

Maintaining public libraries is a waste of money since computer technology can replace their functions. Do you agree or disagree?

My answer:

Some people maintain that thanks to computer technology, public libraries are no longer necessary as they cost much money to retain them. In my opinion, I both agree and disagree with this opinion.

On the one hand, there are two main reasons why computer technology such as the Internet can substitute libraries’ functions. The first reason is that the Internet provides users instant access to information about almost any subject. By contrast, to borrow books from libraries, readers have to take many compulsory steps because of its stringent regulations. Furthermore, individuals can read books in the comfort of their homes thanks to computer technology. For instance, in remote areas, it may take hours for readers to reach the nearest public library, while with the combination of the Internet and computers, they can receive useful information at their homes. In addition, since retaining a public library requires a large number of costs such as employees’ salary and printing, reading online can reduce these costs.

On the other hand, there are various advantages of reading in libraries which can not be replaced by reading on the Internet. First, libraries provide books written by professionals in compared with some information without censorship on the Internet. Second, despite the convenience of the computer technology, many people prefer reading books than reading in front of a screen.

In conclusion, even though computer technology has revolutionized the way people gain knowledge, I believe that public libraries should be maintained due to some reasons I have mentioned above.
