Topic: More and more people are migrating to cities in search of better life but city life can be extremely difficult. Explain some of difficulties of living in a city. How can governments make urban life better for everyone?
My answer:
It is true that people have a tendency to migrate to big cities looking for a better life, but there are a variety of drawbacks of living in a city. Some solutions should be adopted by governments to improve life for urban inhabitants.
To begin with, as an increasing number of people migrating to cities, several problems can be anticipated. The main issue is that a constant growth in population in cities definitely results in an increase in air pollution with emissions from a huge amount of vehicles. As a consequence, urban habitants are likely prone to some respiratory diseases such as asthma and lung cancer. Another problem is that urban areas tend to face up to some social problems such as high crime rate in comparison with that of rural areas. It means it causes a negative impact on urban inhabitants’ safety.
Since such issues are serious, steps should be taken immediately by governments to tackle these problems. The first solution would be governments should invest money in constructing social houses at affordable prices as this enables people migrating to cities to reduce their cost of living such as renting accommodation. A second measure would be governments should encourage commuters to go to work by public transportation. The stimulation would be the low price and the diverse destination of public transportation around the city. If a number of people traveling to work by private vehicles decrease, both air pollution and traffic congestion will be reduced. Therefore, urban life will become healthier and less stressful.
In conclusion, there are various disadvantages of living in a big city, and appropriate measures need to be taken by governments to solve these problems.
