Please review my IELTS essay

Topic: Some people think that newspapers are the best way to learn news. However, others believe that they can learn news better through other media. Discuss both views and give your opinion?

My essay:

It is believed that the best way to gain information is by newspapers. However, some argue that in the world of growing advanced technology, means of media such as the internet, television, and social networks are more advantageous for readers to get updated. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my own opinion about this dispute.

To begin with, it is believed that there are both benefits and downsides of acquiring information from newspapers. Firstly, this media apparently provide for readers official news which is confirmed before coming out in public. Therefore, readers can protect themselves from misleading information. Nevertheless, in comparison with other media, the press is not as up-to-date as others because there are many stages to complete a newspaper production process. As a result, it takes readers periodic intervals (usually a month, a week) to get updated.

On the other hand, receiving information from other media brings readers both pros and cons. One advantage is that with a television or an electronic gadget connected to the internet, it is possible that people update news wherever they are, and the information is updated within seconds. However, the increase in the tabloid press which provides inaccurate information, has caused severe consequences. For instance, tabloids with sensational headlines contain distorted information which attempts to harm someone’s reputation, and makes him or her attempt suicide. Hence, readers need to make their selection to opt for articles with precise information.

In conclusion, even though modern means of media can be effective methods for people to gain information, the conventional way is still the best solution to access trusted sources of information.
