Topic: The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different nations in 2002.

My essay:

The table compares the proportion of consumer expenditure on 3 categories of items in 5 different countries in 2002. Overall, consumer spending on food/drinks/tobacco registered the highest data among all countries, with the highest figure recorded in Turkey. While leisure/education was the least paid attention to the proportion of total expenditure by this group.

Regarding food/drinks/tobacco, Turkey held the lion’s share of 32.14% in the percentage of total consumer spending, followed by the figure for Ireland, at 28.19%. Meanwhile, the rate of income in Sweden paid out for food/drinks/tobacco was 15.77%, by half in this data for Turkey. In particular, clothing and footwear accounted for a minority of 5.4% in Sweden’s consumer spending, as opposed to the figure for Italy, at 9%.

In terms of leisure/education, it was also mostly chosen by Turkey people, at 4.35%, which was higher than that of other countries. Surprisingly, the same number was recorded for Italy and Sweden, at 3.2% and 3.22%, respectively. Meanwhile, a similar pattern was witnessed in the data for Ireland and Spain, at 2.2 % and 1.98%, in that order.
