Task 2: Many museums and historical sites are mainly visited by tourists but not local people. Why is this the case and what can be done to attract more local people to visit these places?

While historical sites are much more attracted to foreign travelers, local people tend to ignore these relics. This essay will discuss the reasons why this is happening and put forward several solutions for this issue.

There are two primary reasons why the holiday makers frequently visit many museums and historical sites. One reason is that foreign tourists who come to visit a mainland or country want to know more about history and source of that land. Partly because of their curiosity and wanting to learn about tradition, culture and indigenous people there. Furthermore, local dwellers who was born and grown at local area, acquainted with images, artifacts and historical culture relics of their hometown. This does not create a new strange to urge them discover frequently. In addition, the entrance price is a constraint to attract more local residents to visit. For example, when foreign visitors come to Ho Chi Minh city, they want to visit Cu Chi tunnels to clearly understand how soldiers could live and fight in a such dark and cramped condition (including hospitals, accommodations, kitchens, and meeting rooms) during the Viet Nam war.

There are several actions that could be taken to attract more inhabitants come to museums and historical relics. Firstly, government should have supported price policy and free for local residents to visit these places. Secondly, revenue from selling ticket need to take a fund to refurbish and maintain all items which has been deteriorated. This is able to serve tourists better. In addition, combining cultural events and exhibitions in these places might provide indigenous people who visit them with new experiences. For example, Ho Chi Minh city’s war remnants museum is always available free of charge for pupils. This allows them to visit and enhance their knowledge about historical figures in figures in the anti-invader tradition.

In conclusion, it is clear that there are various reasons for many museums and historical sites are primarily visited by tourists but not local people, and step needs to be taken to attract more local dwellers to visit these locations.
