Topic:
Nowadays, some employers think that formal academic qualifications are more important than life experience or personal qualities when they look for new employees. Why in this case? Is a positive or negative development?
My essay:
At this time, some managers consider academic degrees a more essential factor than life experience or personal characteristics when seeking new candidates. From my own view, it is a partly negative movement as in some cases, the second one is extremely more necessary than the first one.
On the one hand, overemphasizing on degrees will lead to the poor quality employees. The reason is that, in some universities (mostly in developing countries), students just focus on the theory, the way to do something, rather than practicing. Therefore, a large number of students who have graduated from universities do not do well when working because the theories they have learned are a lot different from reality. For example, some jobs like designer or IT staff require experience and personal qualities more than academic qualifications as they need highly skilled staff that will produce high quality products.
On the other hand, formal academic qualifications is the best way to show how employees ‘knowledge is. Having good qualification means that they are serious students, and they will probably be nice employees in the future. The degrees also help managers decide whether a person should be given the job or not. In addition, high degrees are extremely essential for academic jobs such as working in the Government or company management.
To sum up, whether the employers look for new employees by academic degrees or life experience and personal qualities depends on the demand of the job. However, in this modern society, experience and qualities are more important as everything is developing faster and faster.
