Please review my IELTS essay

Topic: Nowadays people use bicycles less as a form of transport? Why is that? What can we do to encourage people to use bicycles more?

My essay:

Bicycles are no longer a favourite means of transport as they used to be. Reasons for this vary, and I believe that a few possible measures could be implemented to encourage the use of bicycles.

The first step is to understand why using bicycles to commute earns its unpopularity in today’s modern world. The key factor behind this trend is the overdependence on self-propelled vehicles such as cars and motorbikes which are, undoubtly, faster than bicycles. Therefore, these means of transport are more time-saving to long journeys compared with human-powered vehicles. A different explanation that there is no dedicated cycling paths for cyclers in many places in the world. In case of cycling on the streets full of motorized vehicles, cyclers may face high risks of colliding with cars and motorbikes

Some actions could be adopted to motivate people to ride bicycles for the purpose of transport. One practical measure is to impose a heavy tax on self-propelled vehicles. The higher cost may discourage the use of these mode of transport, and to accommodate the demand for travel, people may switch to other inexpensive vehicles, such as bicycles. Another sustainable solution is building bike paths. This may reduce cycling accidents on the road, and as the result, promoting cycling.

In conclusion, the fact that the trend for lower level of cycling could be ascribed to the introduction of motor vehicles and the lack of bike lanes. However, there are some actions to boost the use of bicycles, including the higher tax on motor vehicles and constructing dedicated cycling spaces.

Please give me some comments about my ideas and mistakes.
