(18/06/2019) Many people disagree with a school policy which forces children to learn new languages. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It might be said that many people strongly express disapproval of the school syllabus, which requires students to study a foreign language. Although learning a new language will bring a lot of benefits, I personally perceive that it should not be a compulsory subject.
On the one hand, there are a number of known advantages which are the reason why teacher supplements a foreign language into curriculum. First of all, students will have better chances to get scholarship from foreign universities, if they have ability to speak a foreign language. As a result, they can approach the latest knowledge and enhance their horizon. Secondly, companies invariably prioritize people who can speak more than one language. Therefore, they will be appreciated by employers and have better job prospects, especially in foreign firms. Finally, scientists have proved that learning a new language will help the improved brain and critical-thinking, as well as solving problems, will be shaped during the same time.
Conversely, I would argue that children should not be forced to learn a foreign language. One reason is that many students find it unnecessary to study because they perceive that it will not be appropriate to their future career and also not one of the attributes which their job requires. Furthermore, the school curriculum may already cover a lot of ground. This may result in most students who try to spend more time on studying things which they believe will benefit them in the future.
In conclusion, although school perceives the significance of learning a foreign language, I argue that it should not become an official subject of school curriculum.
