TOPIC: The government should sometimes infringe on people's freedom for the security of society. To which extent do you agree or disagree?
ESSAY:
It is a common belief that the infringement of people's liberty is intrusive. However, I am of the opinion that the interference of the government to people's freedom is inevitable for the sake of the national safety.
To begin with, protecting citizens from latent dangers is the top priority of the government. Over the last ten years, an upward trend in the crime rate has been witnessed all across the globe, especially the number of terrorist attacks. Therefore, it is vitally important that the government agencies take drastic measures, even though they require a violation of personal space. For instance, at the airport, security officers conduct checks on passengers and their belongings with sophisticated security systems. such thorough checks are meant to protect the airport staff, the cabin crew and other passengers from being harmed during their flights.
On top of that, the government's invasion of people's right to freedom is to ensure that safety regulations are obligated. Undeniably, without proper precautions, people tend to act irresponsibly and make harm to others. Take the case of pilots for example, they have to undergo periodic health checks as well as professional skills tests to make sure they are well-qualified for the job. This is because their tasks involve carrying a great number of people through a long distance on the plane. If they do not perform their duty cautiously, they could put the passengers' lives in jeopardy.
In conclusion, for the mentioned reasons, I strongly believe that the government have the right to infringe on citizens' freedom to guarantee the security of society.
