Topic: With an increasing number of people eating fast food, which eating too regularly can cause health issues, some people think that the only solution is to ban it completely. To what extent do you agree?

Essay:

In this contemporary era, there has been an increase in the number of people consuming junk food on a regular basis. Because this trend is associated with some serious health problems, many people believe that imposing a ban on fast food is the only way to ameliorate the situation. I partly agree with this statement.

On the one hand, it is true that junk food causes serious health issues. In general, this type of food contains high levels of sugar, salt, and saturated fats and offers limited nutritional value. Hence, eating fast food too often will result in weight gain at a rapid pace and raises the risk of chronic diseases, diabetes, and many types of arthritis. Moreover, junk food is highly addictive. Once people get habituated to consuming fast food, they often find it rather difficult to adjust to healthy meals again.

However, I would argue that fast food should not be prohibited. The first reason is that it goes against people's freedom of choice. As all individuals are free to choose what they want to eat, banning fast food would leave people with the feeling that their right has been taken. This solution will only make people feel dissatisfied and hostile towards the policy-maker. Secondly, prohibiting junk food means losing huge economic benefits. Fast food is a key industry sector that generates extensive amounts of revenues for the national economy. For example, junk food franchises like Mc. Donald and Burger King provide employment for thousands of people and make millions each month. Therefore, making fast food illegal would bring about severe consequences for individuals and society as a whole.

In conclusion, it is irrefutable that eating too much fast food exerts adverse impacts on our health. Yet I am of the opinion that a ban on this would do more harm than good.
