Q: Now there is a trend thet reports of media focus on problems and emergencies rather than positve development. Some people think that it is harmful to individuals and to society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In recent decades, the news media has been prioritising bad news over positive ones. Although some people think it is simply the nature of media, I personally believe that it has exerted adverse effects on individuals and society.

On the one hand, there is a major advantage of media's focus on ill news. By reporting negative developments, the media is able to warn people against potential hazards. For example, there is a wide news coverage on problems such as global warming, atmospheric pollution or waste diaposal. In fact, these articles can raise public awareness of environmental issues, which becomes an incentive to people to take action to protect the environment and make the world a better place.

On the other hand, the spread of negative stories on the media is detrimental to the public as a whole. Since people are exposed to an overload of news on social ills, they will lose the sense of security and are discouraged to leave their comfort zone. For instance, in Vietnam, the news media once put strong emphasis on child abuse in kindergartens. Consequently, numerous parents had distrust of educational institutions and opted to let their kids stay at home, which means that one parent may have to leave their job to take good care of them. Moreover, this can also impair children's interpersonal skills as they are kept isolated from their friends. This trend, therefore, hinders social bonds among the entire community in general.

In conclusion, the press and news channel are entitled to deliver problems and emergencies; howerver, I take the stance that this trend proves harmful to individuals as well as the whole society.
