“A book is a gift you can open again and again” – Garrison Keillor said. Reading books is an important habit for everyone. Some people argue that books having people’s autobiography, real stories and proven facts are more influential and have greater advantages than fiction books like novels or poets. To me, I totally disagree with this view as both of them are beneficial to their readers.

Undoubtedly, reading books that are about factual events and people or non-fiction books is essential for everyone. Those kinds of books provide readers with in-depth knowledge related to their careers. Those who want to become doctors must take time to read medical books to learn about diseases and treatment. Those who want to become computer science engineers are familiar with reading networking and programming materials. Besides, reading non-fiction books also broaden our view of various fields in our life. Although I major in medicine, I still prefer to read about economy and history. “The world is flat” is the most favorite book of mine. The book gives me deeper insights into globalization in which there are great opportunities as well as numerous challenges that many countries have faced with in the twentieth-first century.

However, fiction books also provide great benefits to their readers. First, reading fiction books is extremely relaxing. They give people great chances to release social pressures by immersing themselves in the adventure of imaginary characters. At weekend, I often choose to read the “Spiderman” comic series as it is really fun and exciting. In addition, fiction books are beneficial to the development of creativity and imagination, particularly for young children. Science fiction forces children to constantly imagine the future based on current events and information. As I was a child, I really love to read the Harry Potter novel. In each chapter, I relentlessly tried to figure out the ending and what is going to happen in the next chapter.

In conclusion, for all the mentioned reasons, I believe that fiction and non-fiction books have their own value and both of them are necessary to people.
